The Thames misses IK Brunel's
Birthday
While Bristol celebrated IK Brunel's
200th Birthday Anniversary in real style on Sunday April 9th 2006, London,
where Brunel did much of his greatest work along the Thames, surprisingly
missed the opportunity to celebrate Britain's greatest ever
engineer.
Ample lottery and other award money was made available throughout the Country to celebrate Brunel's 200th. birthday anniversary, so there can have been few excuses not to celebrate Britain's greatest engineer, those in authority had failed to grasp the significance of this important historic event.
London's has a long history of diverse communities who have settled here from all over the World, many
bringing skills and trades to these shores and helping to contribute to the economy of this Country.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel's contribution represents all that is great about Britain, and should be what London is all about with its diverse communities, the son of a French immigrant, Marc Brunel, he became Britain's greatest engineer, the Nation voted him only second to Sir Winston Churchill in the 'Greatest Briton' programme on TV.
Throughout 2006, while IK Brunel was being celebrated by others across the country, London missed the opportunity to participate, Brunel, who had done so much for this great City, was forgotten by it. This should never happen again.
It is vital in future that those in Authority learn from a failure to recognise that IK Brunel represents the positive aspects of the immigrant contribution to Britain, it shows that those making the effort have huge opportunities to reach the pinnacle of success in this Country, Brunel's significant contribution to London is a magnificent example of this, This great City should have celebrated his 200th. birthday anniversary in style, as did the City of Bristol.
